What is a Certified Diabetes Mellitus Educator (CDE)?

A Certified Diabetes Educator or CDE is the person as a health professional who has the ability to do diabetes prevention and management because of his comprehensive knowledge and experience in prediabetes and diabetes. They support and educates their client who affected by diabetes to let them know and understand and later can manage their condition themselves. The Diabetes Educators Certification Examination is expected and planned for any health professionals who have responsibilities that include direct determination of DSME ( diabetes mellitus self-management education. It is defined by NCBDE.

NCBDE is an independent organization. It was established in 1986. This organization supports the interests of public and diabetes educators to teach and train many people with diabetes mellitus. They are granting certification to qualified health professionals through the establishment of eligibility requirements and development of written examination. 

Since 1986, the NCBDE has some mission. It is to encourage and promote ongoing quality and comprehensive diabetes education and support by defining, maintaining, developing, and protecting the certification and credentialing processes. The CDE credential has become a standard of excellence for the quality diabetes education since 1986.
